Russian Centre Signs in the Big Apple

Frolov, a former first round pick and highly rated forward for the Los Angeles Kings, has been traded to the New York Rangers. Frolov had 19 goals and 32 assists in 81 games for the Los Angeles Kings last season. However, as most know, he is capable of much more than that. At only 28, he is also coming into the prime of his career and filling in the mens xxl skates of the NHL quite nicely. He could be a vital player for the New York Rangers who, after just missing out on the playoffs last season, will be looking to have a much better campaign in 2010/11.

With Frolov, the Rangers are addressing an issue they had last season, which was creating and scoring goals. Gaborik led the Rangers in scoring with over 40 goals last season. It is clear that the Rangers need someone else to plug the gap in goals. Frolov could be that player. He signs a one year contract with the Rangers for three million dollars after turning down a 20 million dollar, four year contract to play in the KHL.

Frolov provides creativity and goals along with great experience that should only help the Rangers. The Moscow native has surpassed the 20-goal plateau in five of his seven NHL seasons, which have all been with the Los Angeles Kings. He fell just short of this milestone in 2010 but this stat will no doubt have impressed the Rangers the most. Altogether, in 536 games, Frolov has managed 168 goals and 213 assists.

Frolov adds forward momentum to a team that needs it, especially in the Eastern Conference, which is well known for being an attacking conference. There is far more emphasis put on scoring goals than preventing them, which the Western Conference is better known for. Perhaps in this higher scoring conference, Frolov can be as dangerous as everyone knows he can be.
