NHL Restriced Free Agents

Sam Gagner, Edmonton Oilers: At only 20 years old, Gagner has his entire career ahead of him and is already impressing as a second line centre for the Oilers. He has put up more than 40 points in his first three seasons in the NHL which is solid for such a young player. It should only be a matter of time before he starts putting up 60 plus points and reaching the potential that many know he has. Potential suitors for Gagner would be any team that is looking to rebuild, however, with Edmonton also in the re-building phase, and having the chance to re-sign him before any other team, it is likely he will stay in the City of Champions.

Bobby Ryan, Anaheim Ducks: Bobby Ryan just recently turned down a five-year deal worth $25 million with the Ducks. This has led to some speculation that Ryan is unhappy in Anaheim, or that he wants hr advice to secure the same contract that was offered to Getzlaf and Perry. Currently, it would seem that Anaheim cannot afford to offer that same contract due to salary cap restrictions. However, it is clear that Ducks'General Manager Bob Murray, wants to keep Bobby Ryan, a player who is coming off back-to-back 30 goal seasons. If Anaheim are unable to re-sign this young talent, I doubt it would take long for Ryan to find another team willing to pay for him.

Marc Staal, New York Rangers: Staal has been impressing in New York and is considered by many to be someone who will become the Rangers'cornerstone defenseman. Despite the attraction that many teams would have towards Staal, it is unlikely that he is going to be playing for anyone but the New York Rangers in the near future after N.Y. Rangers'GM, Glen Sather, publicly stated that he would match any offer sheet that Staal signs.
