Hodgson moving for Hangeland?

There has been much talk surrounding Brede Hangeland and where he will play next season. Over the last couple of years he has proven himself to be one of the best centre-halves in the Premier League. Hangeland is a large figure, both commanding and intelligent. He isn’t afraid of any physical challenges either, something which is so very important to the way in which football is played in England.

Top clubs are always after the best defenders, a position which is often difficult to fill as reliability in such a vulnerable position is hard to come by. It is reported that Arsenal and Liverpool are both keeping an eye on Hangeland who is playing in the prime of his career right now at 29, and want him be flying under their respective banners. Roy Hodgson, recently unveiled as the new Liverpool manager will be keen to bring one of his best players from his time at Fulham with him. Arsenal, on the other hand, desperately need someone who can play alongside Vermaelen to tighten up a pretty average defence.

Hangeland insists, however, that he is happy to stay at Fulham. “I’ve always been happy at Fulham and I’ve always said that.” Hangeland said when asked about his potential suitors. He is looking forward to working with new Cottagers boss, Mark Hughes and hopes that the new manager can take Fulham forward. This is a tall task as Fulham enjoyed considerable success under Hodgson, finishing well in the Premier League and reaching the Europe League Final last season.

Hughes will be keen to keep the Norwegian international at Craven Cottage and possibly bring in one or two more faces of his own to keep Fulham at fighting strength when the season starts.
